Introduction
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has captivated fans globally with its stunning performances and the diverse array of her musical epochs. While the tour is a dream come true for Swifties, the ticket prices, especially in the U.S., have turned into a nightmare due to exorbitant resale values. However, the European leg of the tour presents a much more affordable alternative, as revealed by data from DashTickets’ research and insights shared by fans on Reddit.
Swifties recently have been actively discussing the stark differences in ticket prices between the U.S. and other countries. Many point out that strict consumer protection laws in other countries help keep prices fair. For instance, in countries like Japan and Australia, laws restrict the resale of tickets to no more than 10% above the original price. This regulatory environment starkly contrasts with the U.S., where resale can go unchecked, leading to tickets being listed for as high as $2400 for shows in cities like Miami, but even more based on the location inside the stadium (see image).

Why European Tickets Are So Cheap
The presence of dynamic pricing and powerful ticket vendors like Ticketmaster in the U.S. exacerbates price hikes. In contrast, European markets, often served by multiple competing vendors and stricter regulations, tend to offer more stable and reasonable pricing.
- Consumer Protection Laws: lLaws that cap resale ticket prices to prevent scalping.
- Lack of Dynamic Pricing: Unlike the U.S., many European countries do not employ dynamic pricing, which can drastically increase ticket costs based on demand.
- Competition Among Ticket Vendors: Europe’s ticket market is not dominated by a single entity like Ticketmaster, fostering more competitive pricing.
Insights from Reddit Swifties:
Reddit’s Taylor Swift community has provided real-time advice and experiences that underline the advantages of purchasing tickets for European dates:
- Fair Sale Practices: Users note that countries with strict resale laws offer tickets at face value, avoiding the massive markups seen in the U.S.
- Travel Costs vs. Ticket Costs: For many U.S. fans, traveling to Europe can be cheaper than buying resale tickets for U.S. shows. Fans have shared their plans to combine seeing Swift with a European vacation, proving more cost-effective.
A Better Concert Experience
The combination of supportive data from travel experts and heartfelt stories from fans on Reddit paints a clear picture: for U.S. Swifties, targeting Taylor Swift’s European tour dates might not just save money—it could also significantly enhance the overall concert-going experience. With the added benefits of exploring new cities and enjoying local cultures, the European leg of the Eras Tour offers an appealing alternative that’s both financially accessible and richly rewarding.

Methodology
Global Ticket Pricing Analysis and Travel Costs: After crunching numbers across four major ticket resellers (StubHub, Viagogo, Ticombo, and TicketSmarter), we identified the most affordable cities to watch Taylor Swift live, factoring in comprehensive local costs for each destination. The detailed breakdown includes accommodation, food, transportation, and attractions.
Data was then collected in each city, including the average cost of an inexpensive meal, the average cost of a taxi fare for 20 kilometers, the average cheap but central 3-star hotel cost per night, the cheapest average concert ticket available, drinks/entertainment budget, and attraction budget. Costs in EURO (€) were converted to U.S. dollars using the conversion option available on the Numbeo website, where we collected a lot of our data.
We then determined the total minimum budget cost by calculating the price of the cheapest concert ticket, a one-night hotel stay, inexpensive meals, drinks/entertainment, taxi rides, drinks/entertainment, and attractions of the city. This amount does not include plane tickets and other travel expenses, clothing, or concert merch. Each city was assigned a lower average total cost, resulting in our final ranking of the cheapest destinations for Taylor Swift fans to see the Eras Tour abroad in 2024.
