Real-life sisters Gabriella, Raena, and Amalia, known collectively as Triple Charm, are taking Gen Z by storm! They recently released their newest single “Thrive” along with an amazing “one-continuous-take” music video.
“2023 is going to be your year to Thrive, so here’s your anthem! We wrote this song as a letter to our younger selves, about what we would have wanted to hear when we first started our journey as a musical group. Going into the New Year, we wanted to inspire others to reach their full potential and live life to the fullest. It’s a reminder that you deserve to thrive!” – Triple Charm
This newest release comes off the heels of their popular bilingual single “Don’t Need a Reason.” The song encapsulates the power and celebration of dance – an essential part of the Hispanic culture. The vibrant song inspires to lift you up and raise your spirits, bringing people together. Triple Charm also gained an astounding 1 MILLION subscribers on YouTube in just 10 days during the last two weeks of 2022.
The girl group has collaborated with well-known songwriter Heather J. Miley, who has worked with renowned stars including Selena Gomez and Kelly Clarkson. As the girls would say, “We’re 3 sisters just doing what we love.” Their music is sure to leave you happy, inspired, and ready to get up on your feet!
In Gabriella, Raena, and Amalia’s free time, they enjoy horseback riding, cooking, and surfing. Their philanthropy interests include mental health awareness, ocean conservation, Girls Opportunity Alliance, and UNICEF.
Let’s find out more about Triple Charm in their Q&A with TWK!
Hello ladies, nice to e-meet you! For those unfamiliar with you, tell us a little about yourselves, your ages, and your lives outside of showbiz.
Triple Charm: Hey everyone! We’re Amalia, Raena and Gabriella and you may know us as Triple Charm! We are three sisters who sing, dance, write and release music, and create social media content together. We are 18, 17 and 13 and love getting to work together but also spend time together just as sisters. Performing is our favorite thing to do, but when we aren’t working on new music or filming, you can find us watching some Netflix together or spending the day at the beach!
You recently released the video for your latest track “Thrive!” What was your favorite part about shooting that?
Amalia: Filming the music video for “Thrive” was so much fun and unlike anything we’ve shot before. My favorite part about shooting it was getting to play the piano in the video. Piano is a big musical element of the song, so we wanted to bring that into the video. We all three play the piano, so it was exciting for us to create visuals surrounding it. While filming, the best feeling was when we walked up to the second colorful piano and at that point we just vibed until the end of the song.
It’s an amazing continuous one-shot video requiring some serious timing—how many takes did you have to do to pull off the final product we see on screen?
Gabriella: Shooting a video in one take is such a fun process and the final product was actually the final take we got. We filmed this on a trail in our city, so during a few takes we had to stop because someone was either biking or running by. We had to make sure to time it just right where nobody would pass while we were filming. It was on the 6th take that we knew we had the one and we wrapped it up right then and there.
And what was the most difficult or challenging part about the shoot?
Raena: The most challenging part of the shoot wasn’t the actual filming, it was the set-up of the pianos. During the shoot we didn’t have a big crew, it was the three of us and our dad behind the camera. With just the four of us we lugged out both pianos and rolled them down the trail we were filming on. Loading and unloading the pianos probably took more time than it did to actually film the whole video. That was definitely the most challenging part but the rest was smooth sailing.
You guys show off some of your Latin heritage with bilingual lyrics in “Don’t Need a Reason.” What country is your family from, and what do you love most about its culture?
Amalia: Our bilingual single “Don’t Need a Reason” is inspired by our Abuela and the times we would spend with her dancing to latin music. We are 50% Puerto Rican and we wrote this song to really connect with our roots. A big part of latin culture is dance and that is something we love because dance is also a major part of our lives. It’s a form of celebration and really brings people together on any occasion. Dance is so powerful and that is what “Don’t Need a Reason” is all about!
Even though you are a relatively new artists, you’ve already achieved a lot. To what do you credit your success, so far?
Raena: We first officially formed Triple Charm in 2019 and started posting on social media in 2020. Social media has been a major key to the success we’ve had so far! What we have learned is consistency is crucial to building an audience. We also love to interact with our audience which I think has helped us build such a strong community!
Biggest challenge you have faced in trying to launch your career?
Amalia: I think the biggest challenge we faced when first starting Triple Charm was figuring out how we could build an audience for our music. We knew we wanted to create music but finding the people to listen to our music and follow along seemed tough at first. So we started creating content and posting on social media. When Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts came along, we started to reach an audience bigger than we could have imagined! Over the past two years we’ve been able to build a community of over 13 million people across all platforms!
What has been your number one, ALL-TIME FAVORITE moment in show biz so far?
Gabriella: It’s so hard to pick one specific, favorite moment because there have been so many unforgettable experiences! My favorite times are always when we shoot a music video. We have produced, directed, edited and choreographed our 4 most recent music videos and getting the chance to be so involved in every aspect and have full creative control is such an amazing experience. We all three always have so much fun!
What advice do you wish someone would have given you when you were first starting out?
Raena: I wish someone would have told me that it’s so much more about the journey, than the destination. I still have to remind myself that to this day. It’s easy to get caught up in where you’re headed and where you want to be, but it’s important to take a minute and really soak in the moment. Because all we have is now.
If you could have one super power in real life, what would it be and why?
Amalia: If I could have any superpower it would definitely be telekinesis. My favorite movie in the entire world is Matilda and growing up watching it, I wanted to be just like her and be able to move things with my mind. I think it would just be so much fun!
If we asked your friends what your best quality is, what would they say?
Raena: They might say that I’m good at giving advice because I’m sincere, and I’ll always be real with you.
What annoying habit do you wish each sister would quit?
Amalia: I wouldn’t say any of us really have annoying habits, but I do wish they would help me out with the dishes more often haha!
Favorite snack?
Gabriella: That’s a hard question but I would say that my go to snack is any and all types of chips.
Favorite holiday (and why)?
Gabriella: I would say Christmas is my favorite holiday because it’s such a beautiful time of the year and I love getting together with family and friends! Not to mention the food and gifts!
Biggest pet peeve?
Raena: My biggest pet peeve is the sound of somebody chewing. It makes me cringe.
Secret fear?
Gabriella: Ooo my secret fear would definitely have to be spiders! But it’s not so secret to anyone who is around me when I see one and scream!
Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.
Amalia: Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I grew up doing theater. I started working in professional shows locally at 8 years old and made the final callbacks of a musical on Broadway when I was 10!
Tell me ONE food you REFUSE to eat and why?
Raena: That’s a tough question because I’m pretty adventurous! Although I’m not a fan of nacho cheese. Something about the consistency mixed with the fact that it’s warm, doesn’t do it for me.
What else are you working on or have coming up next?
Gabriella: We are super excited to announce that we are doing our first ever live pop-up concert! It is going to be May 13th at The Abbey in Orlando, Florida! Performing is our favorite thing to do, so we can not wait for you all to see what we are putting together! We would love to see you there!
Could we get a quick selfie of whatever you are doing right now?
Triple Charm: Of course! Right now we are in the studio recording a new single! We can’t give too much away but be on the lookout!
