With the environment in the state that it’s in, we all need to do our part to slow down climate change. Unfortunately, a lot of the things we do without thinking have a negative impact on the environment. If you’re trying to enact change on your own, there are plenty of ways you can do so. We’ll show you a few habits that will reduce your environmental impact so that you can get into the green spirit.
Change How You Think About Trash
Trash is trash, and we usually don’t give it much more thought than that. However, you’d be surprised to learn how many things we toss in the garbage that don’t need to be there. For example, don’t think of old clothing as trash; instead, try to think of it as an opportunity. You could easily donate those old clothes, keeping them out of the landfills by giving them new life. This mindset shift won’t happen overnight, but it needs to happen sooner rather than later.
Lower the Amount of Time You Spend in Cars
If you can get to school via walking or by bicycle, consider giving those options a try before you jump into a car. If you live close to your school, for example, there’s no need to add to the growing greenhouse gas problem just to go a few blocks. Escaping the use of cars is not always possible, but keep it in the back of your head that carpooling and public transit can be much better ways to get around.
Always Use Reusable Products
One simple habit that will reduce your environmental impact is to use reusable products whenever possible. There are tons of products we use every day that have reusable alternatives:
- Cups
- Water bottles
- Shopping bags
- Straws
- Tupperware containers
These are just a few of the many reusable alternatives that can reduce your personal consumption and the amount of trash you create. If you find yourself throwing away the same things every day, keep an eye out for reusable alternatives to those products.
Recycle Your Electronics
Electronic waste is a massive problem nowadays, especially with people getting new phones almost every year. It might take a little more time, but you should try to recycle your electronics whenever possible. Most electronic stores can take them off your hands or at least direct you to a recycling location near you.
