We have featured Edidion on a couple of our New Music Blastoffs! and played his stuff on TWK Radio before, so we were excited to learn he was releasing a new EP called Statistic, which was just released. We sent iver a few questions to get to know him a little better, but before we get to the Q & A, make sure you check out his music via this link: http://edidion.bandcamp.com/album/statistic-ep

Now, let’s get to know Edidion a bit more:

1. Congrats the on the release of your new EP, “Statistic.” Before we get into the music part, tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m 22 years old, lived in London for most of my life, Los Angeles is the city I represent along with London as I call both places “home”. I was born with the love of music and now I’m pursuing that dream.

2. Alright, now tell us why the EP is called “Statistic.”

I titled the EP “Statistic” in reference to how I see myself and where I want to go in life. This entire EP came out of my pain and struggle. Every song on this EP sheds light on things that I’ve actually experienced in life. I am a statistic to many people and I’m trying to break that cycle and show people that kids who grew up with no parents, in foster homes, bullied etc. can grow into confident, intelligent and self sufficient people with bright futures.

I wrote a poem and I re-worked it into a melody and titled it “Statistic” which is the intro on the EP.

3. Tell us a little bit about the recording process…were there any challenges?

This EP was very hard to get through. Initially I wanted to create an EP full of party anthems but I found myself writing about my inner demons, past experiences and situations that I’ve never really gotten over. Putting your pain to paper for the world to hear is not easy and then making it catchy for the listeners is also a challenge but I am an artist and I’m glad I challenged myself.

4. Which song on the EP means the most to you personally and why?

“Guy Like Me” means the most to me. This song can touch alot of people, we all develop a crush on someone and it hurts when that person doesn’t feel the same way and it can also knock our self esteem because we start to believe that we’re just not ‘good enough’ and you start to become pessimistic when it comes to love. This song came from several experiences in high school and college.

edidion5. How would you describe your musical style?

My musical style is versatile, if I had to give it a name it would be simply ‘Edidion’.

I am a huge rock and heavy metal fan. I also love pop, electronic and dance music. Of course I grew up on R&B but I felt it was important on this EP to show the world the different sides to me.

6. Who influences you the most musically?

Michael and Janet Jackson.

7. What do you think is the biggest problem young people face today, and how would you solve this?

My generation lacks empathy and we’re not made aware of things that are happening in our world.

People who know me personally or follow me on Twitter, will always see me tweeting about petitions, raising awareness to things such as animal cruelty or any form of injustice. Sometimes people just don’t care enough to get involved in helping others because it’s not directly affecting them.

I also feel that bullying is a serious problem and we need to remember that we’re all human beings, we’re not above or below one another and if we had empathy towards each other we wouldn’t feel the need to destroy another human being because they’re slightly different to us or they have a different opinion to you. I’m an entertainer so I use my platform on social media and my music to influence people to make their world a better place.

8. Why should teens listen to the EP?

Teens often feel like, nobody understands their mindset and why we feel the things we feel. On this EP I bared my soul because I want people to know that I’m not perfect, I have emotional scars, I’m still dealing with ‘stuff’ and I’m trying to make something out of myself.

I wrote songs about my life experiences because I want young kids out there who feel alone to listen to my music and feel comfort and know that they’re not the only one and they can identify themselves in another artist. Growing up I didn’t have a model to look up to that went through the same things I did. There are positive messages on this EP that teens can draw from.

9. If you could have one superpower (flying, ESP, etc.), what would it be and why?

If I could have one super power it would be “Life Swap”. I would love the ability to put people in the shoes of someone else for like 30 minutes, it would change their entire mindset and approach to life.

10. What’s coming up next for you?

Maybe a music video, I have to shoot at least one visual for this EP.

11. Can you send us a selfie of whatever you are doing right now?

Sure !
