What can top having more than 500,000 Instagram followers, a burgeoning acting career, plus talent as a singer and dancer? How about winning a prize at Nickelodeon’s Kid Choice Awards in front of millions of viewers?
Ashleigh Ross is rising social media star from Australia who recently won the #Famous award at this year’s Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards. Apart from her social media fame, she is also an actress, dancer and singer known for her recurring guest role as ’Scout’ on ABC-AUS’s “Dance Academy” as well as appearances on “Spirited”, “My Place” and “A Place to Call Home.”
We got the chance to ask Ashleigh a few questions so you can get acquainted. Scroll for the interview!
Hi Ashleigh, nice to e-meet you! Tell our readers a little about yourself.
Hey! Nice to e-meet you too! Haha. A little bit about me, I’m a seventeen-year-old actress/dancer from Sydney, Australia, and I’m currently out here living in LA.
You recently won a Kids Choice Award. Congrats! What was it for?
Yes! It was for a category called #Famous! I still can’t believe I was even nominated for the award!
How did you feel when your name was announced as the winner?
I was so shocked. I had butterflies leading up to it, and as soon as it was announced, they all kinda exploded inside of me, haha! I was so incredibly excited!
Where do you keep the trophy?
I’m currently living in LA, but when I get home I’m going to keep it in my room!
Is it heavy?
Yes!! When I first held it, I couldn’t believe how heavy it was! I was trying to take a selfie with it, and I couldn’t hold it with one hand!!
What was the best part about the whole KCA experience (apart from winning)?
Going to the awards was a dream come true. The show was incredible! I was secretly fan-girling the whole time I was on the orange carpet!
Who did you fangirl most over?
Ellen DeGeneres and Zendaya! I absolutely love those two!
What is your biggest pet peeve?
I have so many pet peeves!! One of my biggest ones is when my sister sings the wrong lyrics to a song on purpose just to annoy me! Haha.
You have traveled all over the world. Which city is your favorite and why?
Paris and New York! They are my two favourite cities in the entire world!! They are both just so beautiful. I cried the first time I went to Paris!!
What’s the biggest difference, good or bad, between American teens and Australian teens you have observed?
American teens are so much more confident, which I absolutely love!! Teens here will just walk up to you on the street and start a conversation with you about anything!! And then boom, you’ve made a new friend! I feel like Aussie teens are a little more shy, including me!
What are you most proud of achieving as a dancer as of now (a difficult move mastered, a new place explored, meeting a celebrity, etc.)?
I think now it has to be winning a Kid’s Choice Award! It was honestly a dream come true!!
Which dancer around your age do you most admire and why?
There are so many incredible dancers around my age! I honestly don’t know how I could pick just one, but definitely someone who I admire is Maddie Ziegler. She is one of the most talented, down to earth and kindest people I’ve ever met. She’s so inspiring.
Who is your favorite YouTuber and why?
My favourite YouTuber is David Dobrik! He is absolutely hilarious!
If you could redo ONE embarrassing thing in your life so far, what would it be? : )
Omg! I do something embarrassing literally every single day of my life! I always trip or fall when someone’s watching or filming me, so I would love to not do that anymore! Haha.
Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.
Something some people might not know about me is that I used to be a competitive horseback rider!! After a couple of years, I had to stop because I realised I was allergic to horses!
What are you working on next (as a dancer, actress, etc.)?
Being in LA is so amazing. There are opportunities around every corner!! I’m taking a bunch of classes and going on a bunch of auditions, which are really exciting and fun!!
