You might recognize 17-year-old Ava Cantrell (@avacantrell) from her days as Penelope Pritchard on The Haunted Hathaways or as Teen Diana in the spooky Lights Out. What you might not know is she is also a dancer and has just released a graphic novel written by her and her dad called Amulet of Lilith Episode 1: Auschwitz! She is also set to appear as the lead in a new movie called Abigail.

She is grateful for all her breaks.
All my projects were “big” in some way to me. Haunted Hathaways was my first “big break” working on Nickelodeon. Lights Out was my first big blockbuster movie. I’m really excited for what I feel will be my next “big break;” I will be starring as Abigail in a thriller called Abigail. It will be the first time I’ve ever had a leading title role carrying a film. It’s set in the 70’s and it reminds me of a teenage Bonnie and Clyde story.
Filming Lights Out was as spooky in real life for her as it was on screen.
I filmed on location for all my Lights Out scenes at an old abandoned hospital. It was super creepy. There was a mental ward with huge steel doors that I filmed in. The thought that it was once in use and wasn’t a set made it a pretty eerie experience.
She’s got one typical bad teenage habit – but not too bad.
Procrastinating. I’m not a huge procrastinator, but that’s something everyone can always work on. I’m trying to spend less time dreading things and jumping right into them instead. I like to carve out some time for work earlier in the day, so I can enjoy the evenings relaxing, catching up on shows, playing video games, and reading.
She’s athletic.
I’m a lot more sporty in real life than I may appear on my Instagram. In my off time I’m surfing, skateboarding, or boxing.
